Post Jam Reflection

Hi! so the Jam is over and our game is finally submitted for everyone to play! its been a lot of fun making this game, but it was a extreme challenge for us being absolute beginners. There was no devlogs last few days as we basically spent all the time left developing menus, levels, milk, writing dialogue and play testing. This being my first game jam, it was a huge challenge, I felt like I didnt know what I was doing and like everything was disorganized and that there was so much going wrong, from having major time loss working on the game, not getting some things done till the last minute, communicating ideas, and having to scale down a lot of features we did want to have in the project(More metroidvania style game play, more advanced enemies, more intuitive and unique health system, a sound manager for all the sounds and music we had).  Though these things made it challenging, There was a lot of things we accomplished, for instance, I learned a lot about making a player controller with interesting moves, how to make menus, making Stats, making a combat system, handling dialogue, and so on so forth. At the end of the day, we accomplished the goal we set forth, and that was to make a finished product! Is it a perfect game? Absolutely not, but based on the feedback we have gotten, it has been a small, and enjoyable experience, that has its own charm to it I guess, and I am proud to have contributed as much as I did to it.  My favorite part about this whole experience is just this last day, we had one last big work session, where we play tested, added art, and got last few things in. We were all helping out and having a lot of fun and laughing throughout it.  On behalf of the team, we loved working on Abyss free, and we hope to participate in future jams, and maybe even update this game!

From Lyko:

Some of my thoughts on how the project went! I pretty much just worked on the animation and design of the main man, which I'm mostly quite happy with! Even if he's a bit simple compared to the rest of the spritework(done by the lovely ThinkBlankThoughts), I think I gave him a lively feeling personality with it. Mostly, it was fun to do, though I had a surprising amount of trouble with the walk cycle. My time management needs a lot of work, but this was a fun project! I really enjoyed doing this and I hope everyone enjoys playing!
