My First Game Jam Summer 2021 - Day 11 of Jam
Hey, Its definitely been a bit. I got back from my trip a few days ago, so I was supposed to be working and be making more of these devlogs, but sadly I had gotten a terrible bug bite, and my hand was swollen for a few days, I havent been able to work on much of the game till today, so frankly, I have a lot to catch up on. Last time where I left off I had gotten combat and enemies pretty much done. Today I finished everything I believed i needed to make the solid gameplay, I added the Stats object I made earlier to the player so I could make the player damageable, I gave it many of the same qualities as the enemies(Invincibility frames, blinking, etc.). On top of that I gave the enemy a hitbox to work with. This took longer as it should have as I forgot one vital thing in my game engine that I needed to to do before the code would actually function, so I sat for over 1 hour trying to solve a minor bug that one button would have fixed. Besides my silly mistakes we needed to make a UI so the player actually can see their health, I made a bone to represent the Players hearts, and made it scale based on the player health. This took a bit of time purely because of my inexperience working with UI in Godot. I was able to get that done as well today. In comparison to the past days, I feel a little less confident in the project, we lost a lot of valuable time for the project and neither much of the art nor coding has gotten much progress. Though, this is nothing to deter us though, We still have 3 days left in the Jam, and thats plenty of time to get the Menus done, and hopefully some good level design. We will probably have to scale down a lot of the features we wanted to implement, but this being our first jam, its nothing to be disappointed about. This has been a hard few days for the team, but I believe we are gonna get through and submit something for the Jam, as that was the goal we did set, and it is still very much attainable.
